OUR INSPIRATION

The MAY-B Foundation began awarding scholarships to honor the memory of Mable Alice Young-Beasley (MAY-B), an inspirational health and physical education teacher who died of metastatic breast cancer in 2012.  Mable knew what it was like to lose her father her sophomore year of college.  She wanted to drop out of school and help her mother financially manage back at home but her mother wanted her to stay in school and improve her life beyond the poverty stricken and segregated area of North Carolina in which she lived.  She was able through the support and encouragement of others to continue her education and earn her degree.

HER IMPACT

That’s why her daughter, Shannon Beasley Taitt is continuing her mother’s legacy. One that embodies Mable’s values and beliefs in the power and potential of the students she taught for over 33 years in Littleton, Massachusetts.  Shannon drew from the grief and loss of her mother to establish this foundation so that no child would feel lost or alone.  After writing her successful book, “Get Your Head in the Game: Life Lessons Learned from My Mother through the Game of Basketball,” Shannon wanted to do more. She established this foundation and used the proceeds from her book to reach children and families who could no longer hear their parent’s voice but could feel their desire to want them to succeed. Every purchase made helps continue the legacy of such an impactful person.
